A new day and we decided to take a coach tour of the western half of the island, and what a revelation: the dramatic landscape was breathtaking!
Every little plot of land is used as a small-holding, no matter how inaccessible |
Looking west along the southern coast |
A mind-blowing half kilometre drop to the cultivated land below |
The farmers reach it by boat |
Now imagine viewing that drop through a glass floor - not for Kate! |
Younger members of the coach trip! |
We learned many facts about bananas this trip |
That's the flower at its base. When enough bananas have formed they cut off the flower |
Each plant lasts just a season and one offshoot is allowed to sprout which will replace the 'mother' plant once it has given its fruit |
Did you know that if you eat too many bananas you can overdose and go into a coma? My favourite banana fact :)
